When you're scoping out the pickup scene at your local watering hole, people have a general idea of who they want to meet and more importantly, who they want to go home with tonight.
Even if you're God's very gift to women, making a bad drink order can ruin any chance of an invite back to her place. I don't particularly care if it looks "pretty" or you "think it tastes yummy." If at any point you find yourself ordering an Appletini, a Strawberry daiquiri, or really anything one might see on women's reality television, you're on the wrong track. At that point you might as well ask her back to your place and invite your mother to tag along, because either way, you're not going to be seeing any action tonight.
Thereby, to avert this potential crisis, I have constructed a list of ten excellent drinks that every Bro should be well and familiar with.
10. Old Fashioned - You may recognize this drink from AMC's Mad Men, it's a staple in Don Draper's diet, however it's really more than just a drink or a pop culture statement, it represents a lifestyle. This drink represents power, taste and intrigue.

-2 oz Bourbon
-2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
-1 sugar cube or 1 tsp sugar
-1 maraschino cherry
-1 orange wedge as garnish (subject to preference)
Can be served either neat or on the rocks.
9. Manhattan (Preferably Dry)
Another classic, largely made famous by the Rat Pack as it remained Sinatra's drink of choice until the day he died. This is one that will never go out of style.
[Image: http://www.chicagoage.com/wp-content/upl...o-bars.jpg]
-1 1/2 oz Johnny Walker Blue Label (Or any decent blended whiskey)
-3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
-Use either a maraschino cherry or olive as garnish.
8. Vodka Martini
A drink that is truly the embodiment of style and class, often characterized in the James Bond films, it's smooth, refreshing, with just enough of a kick to make things interesting.
[Image: http://vypechka.ru/_pics/d9jvtrp2cbcb5b7o.jpg]
-1 1/2 oz Grey Goose Vodka
-3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
-Olive as garnish
7. White Russian
Nothing too fancy, considered by some to be a dessert drink, but it's one that everyone should be well and familiar with, relatively sweet taste but it's appearance is surprisingly masculine. Makes an appearance in The Big Lebowski.
[Image: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uqL3gvVQKt8/T0...8-0026.jpg]
-1 1/2 oz Vodka (Smirnoff or Ketel One will do nicely)
-3/4 oz Kahlua
-1/2 oz cream or half and half.
6. Godfather
Has quite the bite, but it goes down nice and smooth. This drink, while something of an acquired taste, is exceedingly simple to make, yet manages to hold it's own against other classic beverages in the same vein.
[Image: http://www.disaronno.com/media/heroes/He...FATHER.jpg]
-1 1/2 oz Scotch
-3/4 oz Amaretto liqueur
5. Gin and Tonic
Cool and refreshing, picture an alcoholic sierra mist and that's what you have here. Clean cut, trendy, never goes out of style.
[Image: http://www.ginandtales.com/dream/en/mobi...-tonic.jpg]
-2 oz Gin
-1 oz Tonic
-dash of Angostura Bitters
-Lemon slice garnish
4. Long Island Iced Tea
Deceptively simple, and with the misappropriation of the word "Tea" it is often assumed that this drink doesn't pack much of a punch, however anyone who has blacked out and performed unspeakable acts as a cause of it will speak to it's potency. Over 90% liquor, and the alcohol is almost undetectable in taste. Often regarded as a golfer's beverage but unless you're looking to shoot a 16 on a par 4, I wouldn't recommend it.
[Image: http://imfashion.com.tr/wp-content/uploa...9/long.jpg]
-1/2 oz Triple sec
-1/2 oz Light rum
-1/2 oz Gin
-1/2 oz Vodka
-1/2 oz Tequila
-1 oz sour mix
-Cola
-Lemon wedge for garnish
3. Gibson
If the olive in martini makes you doubt your masculinity, this variation takes that out of the equation. The cocktail onion provides for a different taste, but it's delicious nonetheless.
[Image: http://blog.thenibble.com/wp-content/gibson-230-b2.jpg]
-3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
-2 oz Gin
-Cocktail onion soaked in the liquor for garnish.
2. The Sidecar
This one also tends to pop up in Mad Men, it has a distinct, very clean cut look, more of a retro than a vintage vibe, but it's classy nonetheless.
There is also a recipe for one with Cointreau as opposed to Triple Sec, however in terms of liqueurs, Triple Sec is my personal preference.
[Image: http://www.cocktailcodex.com/images/dribble-knocker...decar.jpeg]
-1 3/4 oz Cognac
-1 oz Triple Sec
-1/2 oz Lemon Juice
-Lemon garnish (twist)
1. Flaming Dr. Pepper
While this immediately makes a harsh transition into classic party drinks, this one happens to be a personal favorite of mine, it entails setting a shot of Bacardi 151 on fire, before dropping it into a pint of domestic. The end result has a smoky taste nearly identical to Dr. Pepper, hence the name. Play safely.
[Image: http://s1.hubimg.com/u/5434936_f260.jpg]
-1 Shot of Bacardi 151, set aflame.
-1 pint of Guinness or your preferred brew.
-Garnishes are for pansies.
Please drink responsibly. Bro's don't drink and drive.
